Uh, black outlines? Well, off the top of my head, draw in neon green.
As a more serious suggestion, use one layer for linework, then start painting on a separate layer. Or just blocking your work out with a base colour from the start, then elaborating via shading, if you want to try avoiding lines entirely. I usually use a mixture of both.
I'm not sure what you're asking about. Painting without linework in the first place, or finished pieces without lines?
Sorry for the lateness, been trying to get technical-style report on simulating a communication system done.
I can't point out many tutorials - the ones that immediately come to mind are the ones I used for painting jewels, and you probably already saw those. Most of the ones I look at are drawing. Basic, but the wrong kind of basic.
You'd probably want to look for shading tutorials - if you're not using lines, then the shape of whatever object or creature you're painting is going to be defined by shading and shadows.
